Questions & Answers

  • What makes DFP’s education opportunities different from other ones out there?

Besides being the first and only education platform made for Documentary Family Photographers… Our education platform and opportunities are different for a number of reasons, but the biggest one is that everything we do is community-centered. This means that we strive to design education opportunities around the DFP community and our members who not only want to learn but who also want to teach. Our focus is on empowering photographers to make an impact by not only providing badass education to students, but also by using our space to amplify, support, and celebrate the diverse range of photographers who want to teach in our industry. This fosters an enriched and supportive environment enabling photographers of the DFP community to thrive.

  • What’s the difference between the various DFP Education opportunities?

We know that people learn in different ways, that people have different educational goals, budgets, hours they can devote, and paths they want to take. We developed a few different education opportunity options as a way to meet the needs of more photographers.

You can find a breakdown of the different opportunities here.

A quick overview of the options available is:

The Learning Library Membership - at just 20 euro per month (7 euro per month for DFP Directory Listed Photographers), the Learning Library has a variety of content types and covers a wide range of topics, and is ever-expanding. New content is released every month and members can access the library 24/7, allowing them to learn on their own schedule. For paying members, all Learning Library material is online to access at their convenience.

Instant Access Workshops are self-led workshops for individual purchase (separate from the Learning Library). Students receive immediate access to these in-depth self-paced workshops, which they can dive into either via the DFP Education Platform or they can download materials & videos enabling them to work through the content offline. Instant Access Workshops include a dedicated private Facebook group where students can engage with and encourage each other. These are one-time purchases and give students indefinite access to the material.

Mentored Workshops & Programs are live, online, and interactive which allows students to work directly with instructors for a more hands-on experience. These workshops & programs run for set time-frames and have a limited number of spots available in order to ensure students and instructors can get the most out of their time together.

  • Are Instant Access Workshops and Mentored Workshops & Programs included in my monthly Learning Library membership?

Instant Access Workshops and Mentored Workshops & Programs are purchased separately from your monthly membership. In addition, you do NOT have to be a monthly subscriber or a DFP Listed Photographer in order to enroll in a workshop!

  • Do I have to be a Learning Library Member in order to enroll in an Instant Access Workshop and/or a Mentored Workshop/ Program?

Nope. You can enroll whether you are a Learning Library Member or not.

  • Do I have to be a DFP Directory Listed Photographer in order to be a member of the DFP Education Learning Library or to enroll in other courses / workshops / programs?

Nope! Anyone is welcome to sign up for any of our educational opportunities. DFP Directory Listed Photographers do receive special benefits though, such as paying only 7 euros per month for the Learning Library, getting at least 15% off of most workshops plus templates & resources, and the ability to enjoy early-bird enrollment on Mentored Workshops and Programs.

  • How do I purchase a course or workshop/program?

To sign up for the Learning Library you can go here and follow the pages to register.

To purchase one of our Instant Access Workshops, you can look at which are available here and follow the pages to register.

To enroll in one of our Mentored Workshops/Programs, be sure you are on our mailing list to stay informed about when enrollment is open and to receive enrollment instructions.

  • What Payment methods do you accept?

For the Learning Library, currently, we only accept credit card payments through the Stripe payment processor.

Purchase of an Instant Access Workshop or a Mentored Workshop/Program is also best paid via credit card however if you are unable to make a purchase through credit card, please get in touch with us and we will work with you to see what other options are available, such as PayPal.

Please keep in mind, we are based out of Europe which means sometimes your credit card company / bank will flag the payment as suspicious. If your credit card is first declined, we recommend that you get in touch with your credit card company/bank and let them know you authorize the payment.

  • When my month is up on my Learning Library membership, what happens?

Your Learning Library Membership will automatically renew every month on the same day of the month until you cancel your membership. We do not send out monthly renewal reminders so if you want to cancel your membership, you should do so at least 3 days prior to your monthly renewal date.

If your card is declined, you will receive an email from us letting you know that there was a problem charging your card, and to update payment information, if needed. If payment does not go through the next time we attempt to charge your card, your access to the Learning Library will be suspended until payment is made.

  • Am I locked into the Learning Library Membership for a certain amount of time or can I cancel at any time?

You can cancel your Learning Library Membership at any time and you can restart your membership at any time as well.

To restart your membership, you will just log into your existing/old account, using the same login you used to sign up. From there you will scroll down to the bottom of the courses and click on DFP Learning Library Membership Select. And through this button, you will be able to restart your membership. If you have any questions or need help with this, please contact us.

  • How do I update my payment information?

You will log in to your DFP Education Platform account, and on the top right corner, you will see a smiley face. When you hover over that smiley face, you will see a list pop up. From that list, you will select “Your Account”. From the “Your Account” page you will be able to update payment information.

  • Can I just buy a course separately that is in the Learning Library without signing up for a membership?

Learning Library courses are not for separate purchase. The only courses available for separate purchase are our Instant Access Workshops and our Mentored Workshops & Programs.

  • Do I need to be online at certain times?

For the Learning Library Membership and Instant Access Workshops, everything is self-paced which means you can log in and access the materials at any time, in any order, with whatever fits your schedule and learning needs.

For Mentored Workshops & Programs, instructors will let you know if there are certain times you need to be online for live instruction.

  • If I join the Learning Library, but then I don't have time to log in for a month to access content, can I get a refund or apply that payment to the next month?

No, we are unable to give credits or refunds due to a member not logging or accessing content during their active subscription.

The Learning Library is available for access 24/7 (unless we have scheduled maintenance), and we understand that there may be times that you are able to be more active in your learning and times where you are unable to participate as fully as you may want to. If you need to cancel your subscription at any time, you may do so, and can then reactivate it when you are ready to do so.
